High Performance Computing Modernization Program

Defense Research and Engineering Network (DREN) Customers are required to comply with documented policies and procedures. These policies have been developed as a result of Department of Defense (DoD) guidance and lessons-learned to ensure customer satisfaction, Information Assurance (IA) compliance, and overall network management efficiency.

Networking policies apply to each enclave connecting to the DREN and Secret Defense Research and Engineering Network (SDREN).

General Policies for DREN include:

  • The prohibition of media converters to connect to the DREN or SDREN
  • Customer Interface duplex settings
  • IP address and Autonomous System Number (ASN) assignment policies
  • Point-of-contact data maintenance

Other DREN-specific policies define acceptable use, connection approval process, routing change procedures, Cybersecurity Service Provider (CSSP) requirements, exception request procedures for ports and protocols, and Whitelist rules. These can be found under the Networking Services section of this website.

SDREN policies include acceptable use, connection approval process, routing change procedures, and CSSP requirements. These policies are defined under specific Service Agreements and the SDREN Connection Approval Process (CAP) documents.
